Client is a collector of European Art Nouveau furniture and objects. And they bought a Machiya (Japanese traditional town houses )of the 1920s, and wanted a life to be surrounded by this collection and enjoy as furniture that is actually used. So, it was the themes of this project that it has both this heterogeneous gallery characteristics of the combination and practicality in a residence.
However, Machiya and objects look and Art Nouveau, it seems of heterogeneity, but that Art Nouveau movement begins from Japan effects of Arts & Crafts, has been clear from Machiya and objects of Art Nouveau style, seemingly it seems of heterogeneous. Just, the early 19th century, the Mingei also natural thinking in Japan industrialization advances occur.
Original this Machiya is main house 3 ken (3 x tatami size wide of 1920mm) frontage depth 6 ken. In the first floor there is a earth floor following the backyard from main street and three Japanese rooms. On the second floor, there is two Japanese rooms. And in between the warehouse with main house there was a sanitary and old well desolate courtyard garden. This has been renovated leaving the atmosphere of the original Machiya.
House that was damaged the warehouse became a living room, was fully structural reinforcement. And was new provided the stairs to the second floor of the bedroom from the earth floor, the new dining and kitchen conservatory that has been constructed in wood and stone and glass and iron .
And in the most important center of this house, there is a courtyard of silence stone garden by local stone. Machiya and stone garden, and was revived the houses to elegant and noble spirit of Japan by heterogeneous hybrid of Art Nouveau furniture.
