For Macbar the challenge was: how can a tiny space pack a punch on the
street of New York? The answer is: Yellow. The bite-size space is
ny-taxi-yellow, and like a taxi it’s hard to ignore and impossible to
miss. Still, it’s familiar and it takes you home, like mac n’ cheese. In
order to develop the concept further nemaworkshop researched Japanese
pop, where bold moves and bright colors dominate. The resulting
architecture is infused with so much brand identity that the two are
inseparable.
nemaworkshop worked in tandem with the branding company so that the
graphics, colors and architecture are a cohesive package. Like a
macaroni elbow, the space is little and bendy. The banquet wraps around
the space, following the curving plan. The colors of the space,
chocolate brown and bright yellow are identical to the brand’s graphics.
Like the brand itself, the space is bold, bright and even a bit cheeky.
