Interpretation and signage system of the Tejo Power Station, in the new MAAT (Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology) , in Lisbon.
When facing the scale of the building, it became obvious that we would have to deal with scale in the first place, not imposing, but to get noticed…
So, our project consists of “giant red monoliths”, one in each room of the building, that work as “landmarks” or “meeting points” for orientation in this large scale complex, and are at the same time, the support for all the contents and information about the functioning of the power plant.
A major effort was made in “reducing” the huge amount of information (schemes and texts) in the form of oversized infographics, one in the entrance with the overall functioning scheme of the entire power plant, and one for each room/monolith.
The color chosen, (red) is a natural choice that “simulates” the heat that the plant had during operation.
