m5 homes is a small infill development consisting of 5 detached homes of approximately 1800 square feet each near the beach in Port Hueneme, CA. Each home is themed after a color, Red, Blue, Green, Yellow and Chartreuse. Chartreuse is three stories and the others are two. The architecture of these modern homes are designed to fit the scale of the existing historic neighborhood without trying to match and can be characterized as ‘green architecture’ that minimizes harmful effects on human health and the environment. The project minimizes the use of materials while focusing on longevity and low maintenance. The use of tactile and warm materials that age gracefully are defining features that help to soften the architecture and separate it from cold modernism. The project was developed by Marty Ingraham of Martineau Development. The Landscape Architect is Brian Brodersen of Brodersen Associates Landscape Architecture. The photography is by Nathan Cooper Photography.
