The M41 project designed and constructed by MKA architecture & construction, is a 4 storey residential complex located in Alimos, (Athens, Greece), at the top of historic Pani Hill.
The main concept idea is based on the square/cube shape, that forms any morphological elements of the building, like fillings, voids, openings, balconies-verandas, shading structures, as also configurations at the outdoor spaces (different levels, steps).
The design is influenced by De Stijl movement and brutalism, fulfills the modern industrial aesthetics, in exterior and interior. Construction elements such as board formed bare concrete and metal remained exposed.
In order to promote privacy and protection from the elements, balconies of the North façade configure cubic shapes, creating an isolated outdoor space for each bedroom. South elevation opens up to uninterrupted views of the Saronic Gulf.
Equipment of the common areas, such as luminaires, main entrance bench and the fencing, are designed with special aesthetic touches and a common language.
Perforation inspired by the natural environment connects interior and exterior elements, such as metal fencing panels and cubic lights. Transparency and linearity are also infused in the design.
The choice not to use the full coverage-ability of the plot was crucial to create high-quality outdoor space, to improve the microclimate of the building (abundance of plants, water surface – pool) and to ward off adjacent premises (optimum privacy).
