This entrepreneurial client couple with an adult daughter desired to build a four bedroom house for themselves with a simple brief – “the house should be elegant and not opulent”.
This very simple structure aims to express its presence ostentatiously by expressing a composition of judiciously juxtaposed materials in the building envelope. Locally available stonework, plastered wall surface, timber, clay tile roofing and exposed brick masonry all conjure together to create the character.
Vegetation court intrudes into the central area of the ground level clinging to the edge of the dining space and the passage; visually linked to the first floor corridor and the master bedroom.
The interior of the house compliments the exterior material palette. Marble, wood and rustic ceramic tiles for floor and wall finishes along with the glass wall contained ‘puja’ space, consumed by the aura of ‘om’ for meditation and piety of the Supreme Being.
