LYNNsteven is a women’s clothing boutique in the historic Vancouver neighbourhood of Gastown. Named after owner Nicole’s Mom and younger brother, LYNNsteven is a reflection of Nicole’s personal style – from fun and flirty to edgier, fashion-forward pieces. The extremely modest budget and competitive fashion market in the area required a solution that would draw in visitors from the street and generate and create a sense of discovery.
The space itself plays off Nicole’s style and features a large book sculpture that plays many roles within the store. The paperback books used in the design were found on craigslist and arranged into a stunning cylindrical form built in the rear of the store. This feature was designed to contain the washroom, change room and storage. The cylinder also acts as a light fixture at night, creating a unique glow. The lower portion of the cylinder is lined with steel for privacy in the change room and washroom but the upper portion opens up with voids that act as a lantern from within.
