This project for a television writer-producer couple, became a residential addition with a simple twist. The micro-addition needed to incorporate conflicting levels of privacy. The combined addition needed a creative den, an entertainment area and a sleep area. The design proposal involved a micro-addition cojoining the outside as an optional open yet defined 'room'. The two wings of the addition, serving opposing privacy needs were treated as "the lantern" (condition: on) and the "the barn" (condition: off). The construction also involved movable doors, shelving partitions and a entirely openable living area so the ultimate configuration could be slid into use for entertainment, screening pilots or writing and dwelling in privacy
