Pier Currà Architettura has designed an interior where design becomes a sensorial narrative.
A compact space with challenging geometry becomes a stage for light, materiality, and craftsmanship—a project where
architecture and atmosphere blend in a balanced play of contrasts. Suspended vaults, tactile surfaces, and
custom-made furniture define an intimate and sophisticated environment designed to welcome, surprise, and
leave a lasting impression.
Located in the heart of Cesena’s historic center, Lumen is a refined cocktail bar designed by Pier Currà
Architettura. It’s a space that merges design, craftsmanship, and an enveloping atmosphere, transforming a
complex volume into a unique sensory experience.
An Architecture of Atmosphere
The project tackled the challenge of reimagining a narrow, tall space lacking functional hierarchy, turning it
into a warm and elegant venue. The large barrel vault, created with suspended wooden slats, becomes the
architectural core of the bar, redefining proportions and creating soft, evocative lighting. Light, filtered
through selected materials, guides the gaze along the central axis of the space, elegantly separating the
different functional zones: the bar counter and the seating area for tastings.
“Lumen translates into architecture that suspended moment between light and shadow, creating a space
where matter, atmosphere, and identity converge in an intimate and refined experience.” Arch. Pier Nicola
Currà – Founder of Pier Currà Architettura
A project in harmony with material and light, bringing to life a place of balanced contrasts: the interplay
between light and shadow, rough surfaces and luminous materials, creates an environment that invites
discovery. The walls are covered in hand-dyed and distressed hemp sheets, emphasizing the texture and
natural imperfections of the masonry. The flooring in Ceppo di Gré, with its deep veins, adds solidity and
coherence to the space’s composition.
All furnishings were designed by the studio and crafted by Falegnameria Bielle in Longiano. Among the
standout elements is the suspended barrel vault: composed of dark wood slats that reshape the proportions
of the central space. A tall central table in brushed black wood and burnished brass, and movable side tables
fixed to a wall-mounted rail system allow flexibility, transforming the main hall into a dynamic, multifunctional
space. The wooden and brass stools and the bar counter, made from dark brushed fir blockboard with vertical
brass inserts and a gray granite top, complete the composition.
Light and atmosphere are a meticulously crafted concept. The lighting design of Lumen enhances the material
and architectural qualities of the space. Strategically placed fixtures create accents that define the volumes
and functions of the interior. Warm lighting, in contrast with dark surfaces, contributes to the bar’s intimate
and refined ambiance.
