This house was built in the spirit of modernism, loaded with strong geometrical elements. Located in the high-density city of Jakarta, the house must adapted with it site. The design execution and material selection were done carefully to highlight the issue of low energy consumption. One of the efforts was by implementing wood as main material for the building. The rest was reducing cement to create an honest and straightforward characteristic to the building. The rooms were created as a response to the sun path and cross air circulation. Each space was divided based on the air vents that split and limit every activity. The building accommodates a family with four children. Therefore, the house was expected to embody a quality life experience for the future. The space was divided based on the vertical zoning. The lowest floor is the service area; the second floor was designed to be a communal space for the family, while the third floor is a private space with a study room as a core.Even though the client limited the budget, the site is positioned in the premium neighborhood of Pondok Indah. This gives an extra value on the client’s investment. Hence, we focused our design on the space quality and contemporary but non-generic construction manipulation. The main box on the façade was blanketed with wood material to carry a strong statement as a building with local material in the hand. The wood material was picked from cut woods and arranged with a unique module so the aesthetic value can be achieved. The building shape has been a strong expression for the city space surrounding it. The wood element was expected to be a strong campaign to draw people back to wood material as the local material with a good deal of number in Indonesia. Either reuse or certified wood can be used. So the wood value from wood commodity in Indonesia will be able to support Indonesian’s economy.
