This pre-compressed stone staircase was developed for the Lugano Railway Station in Switzerland, requiring structural engineering precision and advanced fabrication control.
The system is based on pre-compressed stone elements designed to ensure long-term structural stability under high public traffic loads. Each component was digitally modeled, engineered and CNC fabricated with millimetric accuracy.
The project demanded strict coordination between structural engineering, fabrication tolerances and on-site installation logistics. Particular attention was given to load distribution, anchoring systems and durability in a public infrastructure context.
The result is a structurally optimized stone staircase that combines material performance, precision engineering and architectural clarity within a high-traffic transportation environment.
This project demonstrates how natural stone can be engineered beyond traditional cladding applications and integrated as a structural, load-bearing architectural system.
