The largest infectious diseases hospital in the Baltic States will be built next to the Kaunas Clinics of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences.
Expanded infrastructure and department
The modern six-story building with a basement will house emergency, outpatient, diagnostic, inpatient, and intensive care departments, operating rooms, and isolation wards with direct access from outside and inside the building.
The infectious diseases hospital building will also house a third-level biosafety laboratory.
Innovative solutions for infection control
The infectious diseases hospital project is unique in that it incorporates a number of innovative technological solutions that will prevent the spread of infections within the building.
Building structure and specialized systems
The designed hospital building is divided into blocks. This layout will separate patients and prevent the spread of infection within the premises.
The premises will be equipped with an air ventilation and conditioning system, contactless door opening solutions, and special equipment for communication between staff and isolation wards.
A helicopter landing pad is planned on the roof of the building.
Size and importance to the healthcare system
The infectious disease hospital planned to be built next to Kaunas Clinics will cover an area of almost 17,000 square meters. It will have about 100 wards where patients will be isolated from each other.
It is expected that this hospital will make a significant contribution to pandemic management and become an important part of the Lithuanian healthcare system.
