The character of the firefighters and the community of the Air Force base inspired the building’s form. Each firefighter has extraordinary talent and passion to be able to perform their duty protecting and saving lives and safeguarding property in the service of their community. The design seeks to express honor, valor, brotherhood and courage. This building is situated in the community of Lowry in Denver, Colorado where the Air Force has a very similar code of conduct – to guard our country and our way of life while risking their own lives in its defense. The geometry of the building was also inspired in part by the aesthetics of modern aviation. The proposed materials can already be widely seen throughout the community – facades containing brick, glass, and metal. The silver metal panels again harkens back to recognizable aircraft design. We propose the firefighters be proudly housed in an interesting and engaging environment as they prepare to risk their lives to protect others. The building becomes their “dugout” – their safe haven to welcome them home at the end of a hard day.
