LOTUS Eye hospitals sits along an important public node of
the city nestled in a dense green foliage allowing multiple possibilities to
relate to the city and nature. Hospitals as institutions lie at a conflicting
junction in one’s mind confused between space of hope and fear. The
architecture of hospitals in the city does not relate to these experiences and
lead to creation of sterile and indifferent environment. The project attempts
to sensitively articulate architecture with the emotions/experiences of the
inhabitants leading to a harmonious relationship of the two.
The design proposal intends to develop a continuous
relationship with the surrounding landscape leading to blurring boundaries
between artificial and natural. The built form if sculpted such that it
responds to sun and wind along with giving multidirectional views. The building
adopts environmental friendly strategies at various levels along with creating
a rich experience for it users. Eventually, the new hospital building will emit
a new identity which is eco friendly and sensitive to its inhabitants.
