Lost River House
This family retreat in the mountains of West Virginia is designed as a spacious escape from the clients’ urban lives. Nestled within a 200-acre property, the home and its supporting structures are carefully sited to capture expansive views of the surrounding valleys, forests, and ridges. The design features three gabled volumes forming a courtyard, clad in dark wood siding and metal roofing creating a refined, modern vernacular. Inside, vaulted ceilings and generous windows create a sense of openness, with communal spaces oriented toward mountain views and private wings for the family and guests. Complementary structures—including a garage and an art studio tucked into the hillside—extend the home’s functionality while maintaining a cohesive architectural language that blends with the natural landscape.
