How do you update an icon? With its front door mid-block on Boylston Street in the Back Bay, Lord & Taylor’s Boston location is the anchor store for the Shops at the Prudential. With its very high shopper volume, the landmark retailer needed to update its Men’s Department without losing the feeling of classic fashion timelessness that characterizes the brand.
Suggesting that more was needed than a refresh, Bergmeyer’s design team first reorganized the sales floor. They opened blocked storefront windows, redefined customer pathways, and maximized fixture capacity. Large vertical wood slat screens and canopies were designed within vendor shops to define sales areas and create backdrops for featured merchandise. A finish palette inspired by classic menswear uses colors and textures from tweeds and leathers. Metals finished with a dark patina and weathered, rustic wood trim adorn the spaces.
