The Lookout is a Grade II listed observation tower overlooking Chesil Beach in Wyke Regis, Weymouth, built by the Coastguard in 1885 in an attempt to control smuggling and the looting of wrecks. The two other buildings on the site are to be cleared to make way for a new house set on the rear boundary which drops to single storey at the south end so as not to dominate the Lookout, which is itself a small building. The bedrooms are on the ground floor with living accommodation above to take advantage of the spectacular views of the sea and the evening sun. The character of the house is that of a converted black timber fisherman’s shed, inspired by those on Chesil Beach, visible from the site.
