The concept presented here addresses the idea of inhabiting london bridge in tandem with raising debate over the recent "Cities Unlimited" think-tank report. This report looks at a controversial masterplan for the future of the UK tipping the southern balance into the English Channel through diplacing the northern cities populations within new perimeter suburbs to the country's capital. Thus the re-working of London Bridge is a self-supporting habitation for northerners who are displaced when funding is stripped from their regeneration cities. To encourage fruitful integration there is no better site than such a prominent bridge. No ghetto, this is an unavoidable intervention, colliding with, challenging and inspiring those whose daily routines it interrupts. London Bridge becomes self-sufficient. Social necessities ofaccommodation, work and recreation are wrapped around the existing thoroughfares, minimising relianceupon local resources. Furthermore, micro-manufacturing and farming outfits are able to generate wealth and produce on-site.This city, factory, farm and landscape has its repetitive structure punctuated by vertical hulls aligned withthe bridge piers. These voluminous spaces weave vertical circulation through public markets and cultural diversions. And while cockneys barter over fish caught beneath their feet, wind, water and steam-powered generators throb merrily as their surplus is skimmed off to the national grid.
