This project included the renovation of an historical commercial building into a new retail space and a loft.
The commercial space is situated on the first two floors of the building, and the loft in the next two floors.
To keep the original feeling of the space, the loft was kept as much open as possible.
Using sliding walls and openings in existing walls separate zones are created. On the upper floor a new ‘box’ was added. This box contains all sanitary spaces and divides the open space into several separate rooms without touching the existing structure.
On the roof of the underlying store a large roof garden of approx 250m2 was constructed.
Access to the loft is done through a house in a nearby street. Thus one always comes in through the roof garden.
