The story of the place it is quite interesting, a Jewish family had a restaurant here between the two World Wars, them the communists took a part of the property and left only this to the owners, to use it as an apartment.
It had only one kitchen, one room and one bathroom with a total surface of 44sqm..
Though the initial condition was really bad, I saw some real potential in the place.
The height of 3.2m allowed building a half story so I tried to explore this area.
After many different options I developed a box-in-box system with a sleeping box in the center of the house. The sleeping box is 2m high and it has another space on top which is very flexible, it can be used as an extra sleeping space or storage, or whatever crosses your mind.
I tried to restore and integrate as much as possible from the existing elements.
The old heating stoves were restored, the bath tube was refurbished, the doors and windows.
The usable space area grew up with almost 5sqm ( the half- story on top of the sleeping box)
Though it is an open-space, the loft has a kitchen, a sleeping space (+ an extra one on top), a bathroom and a living room and a cool brick paved terrace.
