An ancient barn with a modern twist.

The desired result of the historic renovation of this old barn on the hillside of Florence was to combine its unique features with a sleek contemporary look.
This ancient structure has been redesigned enhancing its size by maintaining an open space throughout. A spacious kitchen, dining space and living area can be found on the ground floor, while in the upper floors, the suites and an attic. All connected by an industrial looking staircase that navigates through the spaces merging these levels in a distinctive and fantastic way.
Following the wishes of the client, natural light fills all corners of the spaces while the wood floors give the final touch adding a bit of warmth to this transformed shed.

Getting a little technical, the design was carefully thought in order to respect the landscape authorities and to improve the seismic behavior of the building. A new lighter roof was installed made out of stainless steel and timber in order to alleviate the weight on the structure.
