Live Oak School is a forty-four year old, K - 8, independent school. In 2013, the Board of Trustees decided, that due to increased demand for their academic curriculum, to expand the school from one class per grade to two, thereby doubling the capacity of the school and doubling the size from 20,000 sq ft to 40,000 sq ft. Through workshops that included trustees, administration, faculty, staff and students, TEF developed the program and design that better incorporates Live Oak’s curriculum with their
teaching/learning spaces. Activity and interaction, between teachers and students, between younger and older students and between general education, arts, science and assembly spaces was enhanced by modifications to the basic
circulation patterns. A variety of flexible learning spaces were incorporated into the new design to include large and small group as well as one-on-one instruction.
The school was seismically strengthened and new fire-life safety systems were installed. A new food service program, including a full service kitchen and dining hall were also added. Phase I was completed in 2014, Phase II completed in 2015 and Phase III is currently under construction.
