Café Spatial Installation at Tower’s Foyer
Little & Co. Café (Guangwu Center)is located in the Guangwu Center, Zhujiang New Town, Guangzhou. It is the first store of the brand that has entered the office tower in the Zhujiang New Town’s CBD. It focuses on providing high-quality coffee drinks and independent art shows. In the design of this project, designer attempted to interpret and echo with the brand concept in terms of the selection of materials, colours and spaces. It also tried to put forward novel spatial solutions for the traditional café by combining coffee products with art exhibitions and events — in the form of spatial installations to enhance the role of a refreshment that provides treats to palates and eyes of people leading a fast-paced life in CBD.
From the line, frame and plane as three basic factors, guided by “an open and flexible holistic design”, this project has formed different open-close degrees and hints of spaces by means of combinations, limited many areas of various functions including baristas working area, exhibition corridor and social area, yet visually connected with each other.
The whole café space is in the foyer of the office building as a spatial installation that goes through underneath the escalators. The spatial sequence is also in an entering order as “condense (entrance & coffee making) – enclosure (exhibition area) – open (lounge)”. While temporizing the spatial circulation, it also has provided more spatial contents and a better customer experience in a limited area.
The gallery corridor has bridged the baristas’ working space and lounge as the only way to pass between the two. Through an arrangement of spatial circulation, the design has implemented the original thought of “one drink, one show” into spatial behaviors. There are magnetic materials inside the blue exhibition wall with which flexible layouts based on needs can be realized.
