Ronski+Burke have been commissioned to provide support services to the facility management and marketing team at the former AEG transformer factory (TRO). The listed ensemble in yellow brick consists of a number of wide span works halls with steel truss roofs, ancillary buildings such as disused transformer and boiler houses and a number of office and storage buildings laid out on a 70,000 m² riverfront site in close proxinmity to the centre of Schöneweide.
The owners, a group of Irish and international investors, are developing post-industrial uses with a marketing concept to attract cultural-artistic-academic and trade fair businesses to the site. As this development progresses, RBA is providing ongoing technical support from an on-site office.
The tasks in hand include development of retail uses in one of the large industrial production halls, residential & office development to the river, improvements to fire safety measures, drainage works, administration of warranty issues, repairs to roofs and development of concepts for remodelling and fire safety improvements to rental units.
An area development plan has been agreed on the basis of a masterplan for redevelopment compiled by RBA in 2011. The masterplan presents a realistic vision for the 7 ha. site based on detailed knowledge of the building fabric, tenant structure and client aims.
