This SYMBOLIC OBJECT is a reinterpretation of the work created during the Constructivist movement but more specifically El Lissitzky’s own personal work. The concept grew from the simplicity of the Russian Avant-gardes to create such beautiful Architecture, Sculpture and graphic designs. Not only did they use simple geometric shapes as the circle, square and triangle but they complimented them with bright and beautiful colours. Through their simplicity they created complex ideas for the masses. This OBJECT is a commemoration to that “simple” idea.
The primary structure is made of heavy steel trusses cantilevered one above the other. This was inspired by Lissitzky’s Lenin’s Tribute and of course the famous and unfortunately unbuilt Tatlin’s Tower. The structure is surrounded by a three dimensional representation of the powerful poster by El Lissitzky, Beat the Whites with the Red Wedge. The red triangle and the black square are both attached to the trusses, where the white circle is in the center projecting a soft but present white light.
The blades of light cut through the landscape leading the people to the OBJECT, mirroring the steel trusses they lead to. As one approaches the object they are only amazed by the structural beauty and integrity that is present in the center of the light. Only through its simplicity of form and colour can one see its complexity in design, structure and beauty. That is Constructivism. That is Lissitzky.
