Lipovaya roscha park is a unique woodland within the city made up of mostly linden trees growing on a steep site. Tall black trunks create a beautiful vertical rhythm, while complex landscape and a mountain in the center attracted local sportsmen, who started using it for mountain biking and North Shore style of riding. It’s not just a hobby – the park often hosts competitions and we didn’t want to exclude this community from the scene. That’s why we looked for a solution that would factor in the interests of both regular visitors and sportsmen alike.
This is how we came up with the idea of creating bridges. We analyzed a range of parameters: a cyclist height on a bike, the size of a helmet and the distance a cyclist covers if the speed is around 60 km/h. As a result, we worked out cyclists’ behavior pattern and developed high wooden bridges. They had to be located in the right way to prevent cyclists bumping into pedestrians. We created a convenient infrastructure for everyone, which allowed visitors to walk without having to worry, and the cyclists ride without having to slow down.
In this project, we used natural materials as much as we could - solid wood, sand and stone dust and dirt tracks. The color palette we chose was close to the colors of the forest. Grey materials allowed us to fit the equipment so that it didn’t look foreign against the background of nature. The linden grove makes an impression because of its black trunks that resemble huge umbrellas through which the sunlight shines through beautifully. Without doubt, it is one of the most stunning forests. Another interesting feature – you rarely find a forest made up of such straight tall and identical trees. You can look through it and it creates a movie-like atmosphere.
