REEL Shanghai has partnered with London-based fashion brand XUZHI and New York based designer Wenya Liu to create an awe-inspiring window display installation that is sure to captivate mall visitors. The installation aims to showcase XUZHI's latest collection, featuring textural quality and intricate craftsmanship, through an immersive display that incorporates lighting effects.
The installation features a contemporary woven display space that highlights XUZHI's unique blend of contemporary and traditional designs using ordinary materials. Liu's expertise in fashion design and textile art is evident in the installation's use of cotton strings, which recall the basics of garment materials, the cloth weaving process, and the bespoke service's craftsmanship.
To create a floating, continuous, and ever-changing effect, the installation carefully controls the density of cotton threads, the direction of lights, and surface cutting. The display is made up of hundreds of cotton strings that are woven and stitched together to form a series of floating voids, showcasing the four main XUZHI products. By manipulating the perception of depth and perspective through point, line, and surface, the installation provides a dynamic and engaging viewing experience for mall visitors.
The entire installation, which measures around 4m in height and 5m in length, has been divided into three modules for more convenient transportation and construction on-site. The frame was pre-made at the factory, with workers weaving the lines into the designed hooking details on-site, making it easy to hook. The entire installation was completed within a night on-site and displayed at REEL shanghai for two months.
