Line 5 Eglinton is Toronto’s most significant transit expansion in decades, conceived not as a single piece of infrastructure but as a city-scale architectural system coordinating stations, streets, and public space across 12 miles (19 kilometres). The line includes 15 underground stations, 10 at-grade stops, including two terminus multi-modal buildings, establishing a unified design language while allowing each station to respond precisely to its context.
Stations are organized into three architectural typologies - pavilion, corner, and embedded buildings - each calibrated to its site conditions, surrounding scale, and patterns of movement. Rather than relying on monumental form, the architecture prioritizes clarity, permeability, and civic presence. Transparent façades, generous canopies, and legible circulation create stations that are immediately recognizable, accessible, and welcoming.
Internally, stations are shaped by the passenger journey. Open sightlines, daylight-driven volumes, and modular architectural elements support intuitive wayfinding while enabling efficient delivery, phased construction, and long-term adaptability across the corridor. Materials are selected for durability and long-term performance, reinforcing a cohesive identity across the system while accommodating varied urban and suburban conditions.
