Combining traditional glass-making craft with innovative design and technology, Lasvit in collaboration with Third Millennium Group – the owners of 540 W. Madison, Chicago created an extraordinary light design experience at 540 W. Madison. The recent completion of the blown-glass sculpture "Light Twister" by world renowned Czech glass company, Lasvit, brings a unique and vibrant form of light to 540 West Madison lobby and mezzanine space.
The bespoke design strives to perfect the transformation of glass to create spectacular, emotive, lighting experience in the lobby the installation was designed by in-house designer, Libor Sostak, in which he created hand-blown crystal, using a variety of artistic techniques.
Libor drew inspiration for the shape of the blown glass pieces from rain drops, mirroring the building's sustainable systems specifically water cisterns. The “Light Twister” sculpture created for 540 West Madison and inspired by dynamic movement, symbolizing growth and rapid development, all while predominantly focusing on light. To empower this breathtaking impression, different lighting elements were placed inside certain components.
The Lasvit sculpture is 180 feet long and contains 5,675 individually blown glass pieces, and an impressive 674 LEDs .
Standing 29 stories and measuring 1.1 Million square feet, 540 West Madison is located in Chicago’s West Loop sub-market. The building is 99% leased and features a variety of high profile tenants among a broad range of industries including banking, financial services, consulting, health care, technology and pharmaceutical. 540 West Madison and is a LEED Platinum building, certified by the U.S. Green Building Council.
