For Dublin as for many other cities the river represents an urban natural element defining the shape of the city; with bridges built to become witness of the passage of time and the relentless action of men to modify the landscape. We designed the illumination of each bridge taken as a singular entity within a much larger context they all had in common. Those bridges where pieces of a vision that spread along the line drawn by the river. Our work as lighting designers required a method shared in the same manner by an heterogeneous group of other bridges. This project is one of the first in the world to use LED linear elements for the illumination of the balusters and the railings; it provided with a golden wash visible from the distance. A pioneering technique that has been adopted by other designers later on. 12 years later these same light fixtures are still working in good conditions.
