LifeBelt Transitional Housing System

Firm
Life Belt Transitional Housing Systemby Oscar Ramos RodriguezEvery year, mainly due to natural disasters, there is the need for transitional housing and shelter in many countries. This sudden lost of homes destroys families and whole communities. The Life Belt Transitional Housing System values life in all its forms. This is why the novel idea of cradle to cradle developed by William Mcdonough and Michael Braunghard is at the core of our system. We propose to tap in to the technical metabolism of our time to reuse and recycle plastic, rubber, aluminum and canvas from old building publicity in order to develop a new way of making transitional housing for the masses. The proposed system is a research and development factory dedicated to the study, design and construction of mobile temporary communities in response to the emergent need of housing. The Life Belt Transitional Housing System is a prefabricated mountable and demountable belt like structure made out of recyclable plastic with structural supports made of aluminum. The main component is a plastic link that can be used as floor, façade or roof depending on the predesigned rubber, plastic or canvas surface for each application. The structural support and the predesigned surface can vary depending on the location and materials available. The Life Belt Transitional Housing System has many modular configurations. The configurations are scaled in two areas community and family. For example a five family community with two families made of four members and three families of five members or vice-versa. Every module of housing has a service pod that contains bathroom and a small kitchen with a easy to start hydroponic garden. The Life Belt Transitional Housing System once mass fabricated is then stored in different locations based on studies related to housing needs.  When needed, the system is ready to be deployed and can be arrayed in different ways to be tailor-made for every emergency housing need.
