"LIESE" - MORE THAN A TOWER IN BERLIN
Urban qualities of a high-rise building
"Liese" marks the Berlin-Lichtenberg railway station. The 64-metre-high tower between the railway tracks and Frankfurter Alle sets a new accent in the urban fabric, visible from afar. But even more: "Liese" brings new life to the neighbourhood. This is ensured not only by 394 flats, but also by 2,800 square metres of commercial space and a generous amount of open space. This mix of uses is what constitutes urban quality per se.
Our office in Berlin under the direction of Prof. Gerd Jäger ensured a differentiated implementation of his urban planning concept. The tower façades are based on the classical composition of base, central area and parapet, creating a balanced relationship between vertical and horizontal. Particularly interesting is the connection between the individual zones through the variation of the window bands, which once again unite the façades into a coherent whole.
Different target groups are also united in the "Liese". Our client HOWOGE Wohnungsbaugesellschaft mbH collects a mix of subsidised, privately financed and assisted flats here. In addition to private loggias and a shared roof terrace, the high-rise building has a special feature. The edge of the slope on Frankfurter Allee was cleverly used to incorporate a green space with seating steps - an arena, as it were - into the complex.
