Lamia’s Technological Educational Institution has a very important role in the city’s economical, social and intellectual life. Therefore, its growth is imperative not only for the building itself but for the whole region.
The project concerns the designing the building’s library. Besides the library hall, the additional wing includes Reading rooms, Administration offices and an Amphitheatre for social and cultural events.
The placement of the building at the Southern end of the triangular plot creates a “building -limit” and determines- to a great degree- the growth of the building’s mass. The sides of the building follow the converging sides of the plot. The main goal was to emphasise the main character of the building as the dominant volume of a wider group so that the building functions also as its core. The central entrance is on the North side and receives the students and the instructive personnel of the Institution, while the Eastern one gives the building the possibility of an autonomous and independent function.
