Located on the
edge of the development zone Reunion in the 20arrondissement of Paris, in an area that sees changing gradually disappear the footsteps of its urban fabric
characterized by its plots "strips" and dead ends - to let the place
to land with "square" character to built family housing, and public
facilities.
In fact, what characterizes this neighborhood "Reunion" now , is a strong breakdown and a wide
disparity of constructions: heights vary from R 1 to R 9, lack of alignment,
large buildings back up ... but also many empty spaces, private gardens in the
heart of the block, places, sports city, vacant land ...
To avoid the feeling of being
erased the small-equipment with a height limited to 1 level, the project
retains the gap with the public adjoining
building " bains douches ", and on the other hand, proposes a
withdrawal on the floor compared to new housing. The effect of detachment can
properly identify and mark the library, especially since the street Buzenval.
To avoid the
effect of horizontal clearance from the building, the architecture of the
library offers a fraction of the volume of hedges on the street.
This device has several objectives:
- It allows you to find a reference to the scale of the building feature of
this street and the plot in strips: to access both facilities are located in
two volumes alignment, suggesting each level of a separate building and some
vertical, the volume suggests linking to the floor which gives a transparency
to read the depth of the plot,
- The formal autonomy of the building, necessary to its status of equipment, is
not to the detriment of the street level. If writing is contemporary, it is
part of an integration process based on a thorough reading of the context sets
up the library.
- It allows the expression of a fifth facade where each programmatic entity is
readable. If the roofing material is not visible as such from the street, the
slopes of the roofs allow to understand the volume of the building within the
block.
