A private single family NYC house.
The project is a renovation and expansion of a 36 feet wide townhouse that was located in the Upper East Side Historic District and had to pass approval of the Landmarks Commission. The bottom two floors contain all the public spaces while the upper three floors are reserved for the private rooms.
The facade of the upper three floors is made of a transparent synthetic stone that lets the light in and which encloses an interstitial buffer space that acts to protect the house from sound, heat and cold while also affording the rooms opening on to it a greater sense of privacy then would be otherwise possible for a street facing space.
