Libertad 1416 emerges as an architectural exercise aimed at revaluing the historic center of Guadalajara while creating a space that reconciles past and present.
The project proposes a respectful intervention with the existing structure, recognizing the importance of the original house and its construction elements, and transforming them into catalysts for new urban life. The strategy begins with the central patio— the heart of the home and a reflection of the social structure of the city center.
This space, with its original cantera stone fountain, is preserved and reinterpreted as the project’s organizing axis. Water and landscaping are the fundamental resources that shape an atmosphere of serenity and connection with nature, counteracting the external chaos and turning the interior of the complex into an oasis of calm.
The intervention responds to a contemporary program that integrates a hotel, a restaurant, and a commercial space, allowing the property to diversify its use and remain relevant within today’s urban dynamics. Rather than imposing, the new components are inserted through a balanced dialogue between the historical and the contemporary. To achieve this, original materials that provide authenticity were recovered and complemented with contemporary design elements that highlight the home’s historical richness without competing with it.
The use of local materials strengthens this dialogue, establishing continuity with the region’s constructive tradition. The incorporation of new elements is resolved through a sober and intentionally contrasting language that frames and enhances the architectural memory of the property. The project goes beyond preservation; it proposes a flexible and multifunctional spatial adaptation that responds to contemporary needs without compromising the integrity of the building.
Thus, Libertad 1416 stands as an example of how architecture can act as a bridge between eras, where heritage is not frozen in time but revitalized through new dynamics of use, creating public spaces for visitors to contemplate and inhabit within the city. Beyond its individual value, the project aspires to become a reference within the neighborhood and a call for the comprehensive rehabilitation of Guadalajara’s historic center.
Libertad 1416 seeks to reactivate the urban and social fabric, fostering a link between residents, the government, and private initiatives to restore the prominence the city center once held as the heart of Guadalajara.
