The first phase of a major reconstruction of an existing Regional Medical Center included two major goals: renovation and expansion of the hospital lobby, and expansion and consolidation of women and children services into a single location within the hospital.
The new lobby was to provide improved traffic flow to parking areas, a larger patient drop-off area, a logical and organized connection to existing circulation paths and provide a new face for the hospital.
Women and children service lines were to be combined in a single location with a new and separate entrance to allow for a “branding” identity. This area was to include 12 new and renovated LDR suites, 24 new postpartum rooms, a 33 bed nursery and 25 bed NICU as well as an independent, 3 room operating suite for women’s health needs. Renovations necessitated relocation of the hospital administrative offices.
In addition, an existing skywalk connects an adjacent facility to the hospital. This causes non-patient traffic to enter the hospital through a third floor patient unit as well as causing a major obstacle to construction and expansion.
