Footprint Architects were appointed for the full renovation to a period coach house in the Meyrick Park and Talbot Woods conservation area in Bournemouth. The existing property had undergone unsympathetic alterations in the 1970’s and due to the surrounding trees and site topography the house was dark and had no relationship with its outside space.
The concept developed was to re-orientate the living room of the house and develop an external courtyard space giving the property an awareness of its setting. This extended to the bedroom areas where the master suite was relocated to the end of the house and opened up to the garden at first floor, enhanced by a linking bridge.
The proposed extension to the front of the property removed a bay window but was designed to allow more daylight into the house, give glimpses of the external frontage and give the period house a new modern yet contextual.
