The cafe enriches a neighbourhood of cafes and restaurants in the Pafos centre. A conversion of an abandoned kebab house, it is the first of its kind, a combination of cafe and patisserie.
A projecting strip meanders on the left wall, uninterrupted by glass. It is meant to house art exhibitions, cafe signage and other artwork. The floor has a prevailing checker plate pattern while the simple ceiling design helps clarity. Sparkle is added by the bar, clad with patterned underlit glass.
Maria Antoinette was used as the main theme of the graphic design, appearing on walls and glass. The phrase “let them eat cake” in various languages was used as a safety visual strip on glass. The main sign features an ethereal Maria, enhanced by the neon lettering.
The courtyard provides outdoor seating, either under the mass of the upstairs washrooms or under trees planted to provide cool shade. Areas of pavement seem to float on the water of the evaporation pool, lit at night to provide visual drama. Cascading water keeps the face of a long concrete wall wet, in order to drop air temperature.
