This Project is the outcome of a 7-day workshop in the village of Graulhet, approximately 50km of Toulouse, France. The village was subdivided into 4 distinct parts and each group was asked to develop an urban renewal project for each of the sites. These would range from the historical center, currently in a state of abandonment, until the ‘Crins’ neighborhood, where the local population is mainly constituted by immigrants. Later on, these individual segments were brought together so as to form one grand masterplan.
In the Crins neighborhood we can detect an excess of open space, these are occupied by parking and sports courts. However, these are not frequently used and are poorly kept. Bearing this in mind, the meeting and living space was transferred to the sidewalks along the internal streets. These have been leveled with the streets so as to facilitate the general circulation.
The ‘Crins’ marks one of the village’s main entrys. So as to emphasize this access point, a vegetation axis was created along the grand avenue. Similarly, the new residential buildings were aligned perpendicular to this same avenue. This distribution contributes in generating a rhythm, that’ll emphasize this transition from highway into the village. An oscillation in terms of scale and velocity.
