This project was begun for a private client while their house was in mid renovation. They wanted a warm and central hub that could be used both for small gatherings and for display. The client, a photographer, needed a flexible space for both presenting final work, and storing work in progress while not committing an entire room to becoming an infrequently occupied gallery space.
The central design element is a hand carved nine foot long credenza that we made in our shop and then floated off the wall during the final frame out of the room.
The credenza features a series of different sized drawers, form one inch tall to two feet. The hand carved american walnut drawer fronts, each featuring a carved in under pull, slide out to reveal felt lined drawers for presentation images. A private library / card room done within an existing house
as it was being renovated.
The reset of the room takes its queues from this design, resulting in a warm mixture of walnut and wormy maple, all hardwood, along all four walls, including a hidden door that opens to reveal the living room beyond.
