Lenggong is a jewel findings....
It is something sacred......
A very rare discovery.
An archaeological site that has never interfered.
It showed a purity...
Purity.....translated into architecture terms - the basic
geometric shapes, the basic colors....
Thus, the architecture used here is symbolic of the purity....
In order to make a statement.
Bold, rectangular shapes and white color!
To be seen in the eyes of the world...
To show the ‘results’ of all efforts of this valuable discovery.
It is time the world recognizes us,
with this discovery through architecture.
There is a land, as the floor.
There is a forest, as the wall.
There were cloud, as a roof.
That's the life of Perak man’s....
They went to their glory days...
No one knows for disasters to come..
Subterranean(under the ‘stepping landscapes’) space is designed
to reflect this.
They believe he is very special..
They take care with the utmost respect.
He wanted to be found by us.
So that his life history can be studied by us.
By the discovery of Perak man’s,
‘he’ has put us on the ‘map’,
which has dim over the years...
Thus, the dramatic space to be felt by visitors designs in Perak man's cave.
To give a sense of the ‘supernatural’.
This is just the beginning...
Only the tips of the iceberg, much more to be explored.
Thus the rectangular box is tilted to show as the ‘iceberg’..
And many other things can be explored.
Archaeology is about ‘curiosity’
We have to keep ‘digging’ to find the truth..
Bold and pure form architecture,
giving a lot of questions from outside.
We have to go and find what is in the building.
With regards to cost constraints,
there are three phases of concept
development:
1. ‘The stepping landscape’
building.
2. The ‘tower’
3. Perak man’s cave.
It can be built in phases.
On site design strategy :
- existing building footprint on proposed site. try not to excavate
new area, will use the existing flatten area on site.
-to maintain the existing building footprint, added sunken area
for main spaces, main lobby, offices, meeting rooms, ticket counter, cafe, multi purpose rooms, play area, resource center, gift shops, temporary & permanent exhibition area, surau, & toilets.
-the ‘stepping landscapes’ act as a roof for sunken area.
visitors can ‘climb’ and explore the existing hill from
ground level.
-the ‘tower’ - a slanting rectangular shape(to follow) the hill gradient). combination of tower and gallery spaces.
-the ‘perak man’s cave‘-
the climax to the whole programmed.
perak man’s is the special & outstanding discovery, therefore a
dramatic spaces was created.
-the whole composition of lenggong valley visitor center.
consist of the stepping landscape, tower and perak man’s cave.
According to the characteristics of landscape, will make the materials looks natural, raw and exposed- bare concrete.
