Project Description
Set within a sensitive historic urban environment in Budapest, the project transforms the rooftop of an existing residential building into a contemporary living terrace that functions as a fully articulated architectural layer.
Rather than treating the roof as a residual outdoor surface, the intervention redefines it as an extension of domestic life. A compact pavilion-like volume organizes the terrace spatially and programmatically, while new outdoor zones for dining, relaxation and seasonal use create a coherent rooftop landscape above the city.
The new architectural elements are defined by a precise material composition. Ventilated façade cladding with CPL panels is combined with stone surfaces, large-format paving and integrated built-in elements, resulting in a restrained yet highly tactile expression. The contrast between warm cladding, mineral surfaces and reflective glazing gives the intervention a calm, refined identity.
Equally important is the role of shading, planting and atmosphere. Textile canopies, integrated planters and bamboo screens shape the rooftop as a layered environment, balancing openness, privacy and comfort. By day, the space is defined by filtered light and clear spatial transitions; by night, integrated lighting emphasizes edges, levels and textures, giving the project a distinct second identity.
The result is not simply a terrace renovation, but the creation of a new residential horizon: an inhabitable rooftop environment where architecture, landscape and urban context are brought into careful balance.
