Municipality of Lelystad NL moves library to first floor of new building in down town shopping area. Tight budged demands smart design solutions.
Target
Create a highly innovative library concept that will generate a new users, lots of fuzz, down town traffic and focus on young people as they are next years users.
Action
Rethinking the library: changing the old school bookshelves into a landscape of knowledge that’s waiting to be discovered . Innovative signing concept connects the library with modern retail techniques.
Result
A modern, innovative and welcoming urban room that attracts and inspires people. The new looks position the library as a modern Third Space, connected with todays digital world.
Did you know?
Lelystad City Library was awarded twice Best Library of the Netherlands, both in 2009 and 2012. In 2009′s contest it was considered to be the Netherlands Best Library Design. It is was the first library to be fitted with aatvos designed aluminum shelving with integrated lighting and the fancy high tech book intake.
