A steep site can be tricky for designing a family home, particularly when a client had the vision of building half the house under ground on a Greek island. We suggested separate ‘viewing cubes’ to the site, all connected by a buried quarter underneath, with sleeping accommodation to the back and all living, entertaining and dining to the front with 180° panorama views. a cascading waterfall runs from a bathroom separating the bedrooms along the terrace over a shoot into a swimming pool at lower level, to be pumped up again to the bathroom feature wall. The underground garage has space for 4-6 cars; guest accommodation, bar, cinema and game room overlooking the sun terrace towards the sea. the design is currently in planning at lefkada district council.
