Leeuwarden City alderman in need of a bold plan to boost old library.
Target
Create a world class bold library interior in old monumental library that will insure its use for the next 20 years.
Action
Remove all of the buildings 1980′s interior. Think of it as an valuable monumental shell that contains a modern treasure. Upgrade this shell to the latest standards of durability and sustainability. Design its treasure as an exciting library wonderland that provides new insights around every corner.
Result
A remarkable go together of old and new. A monument now houses a one of a kind library, that in itself attracts citizens to meet, join, gather and use its assets all day long. This is the place you need to be seen!
Did you know?
All climate and heating equipment is stored in an invisible 1,5 meter thick floor between ground floor level and first. Therefore people can now look out the first floor windows, a serious improvement of city visibility and liveliness of the library.
