Located in a dense Chicago neighborhood in Pilsen, the Multi-Generational LEED Homes project is targeted as a LEED certified multi-generational facility (3-units) housed within an 1880s historical Italianate home and a new modern 2-story building. Prioritizing multi-generational living as a core aspect of the design, the client sought Canopy to identify ways in which the new 2-story building could include independent elderly family living while allowing the existing building to be retrofitted to accommodate the immediate family. Emphasis was placed on energy efficiency, natural vegetation, passive solar design and storm water management as the primary influences in establishing a holistic sustainable design.
