Platt Byard Dovell White Architects’ new building for the LearningSpring School serves 108 children diagnosed on the autism spectrum with a full range of academic, athletic, and special needs spaces. The zinc and terracotta façade is draped with an aluminum and stainless steel sunscreen, creating a rich presence at the corner of 20th Street and 2nd Avenue in Manhattan and providing the students with a visual buffer from the busy intersection.
The building was the first in New York State to receive a Gold rating under the rigorous LEED for Schools program and was awarded a 2011 AIA/CAE Educational Facility Design Award of Merit.
