Le Jour Café is located in the historic centre of Košice, on the Hlavná street in a building, which is the oldest preserved bourgeois building in the city centre.
Large vault premises with an area of 140 m2 offered various options of use. We revealed and restored stone paving laid in the 70’s of the last century, which partially predetermined the direction of design in interior. Similarly to the mix of stones used for flooring we have used variety of materials and components from the same era which an objective to create a non-traditional, inspirational and at the same time up-to-date premises with many original items. Place for the bar desk was obvious from the beginning – tall vaulted ceiling needed to be filled up with a non-traditional object. We chose a tailor-made lamp, which became the main decoration of the café. Entry zone on the left is designed as fast café zone with smaller amount of tall chairs and allows for a direct communication with the low bar. On the opposite, the back zone provides more options for sitting with an outlook to the whole café. Installation of a carpet with grass imitation on the ceiling makes this part warmer and smoother and creates a perfect background for a set of glass balls installed on the ceiling. Deliberate dominance of metal material is damped and complemented by wooden tiling and sitting textiles. As complete products were only used chairs for benches in the front and in the back, other equipment was directly designed and produced for the café, just like the decorations of faces from perforated sheet metal used on the wall in the back part, illuminated pictograms on the wall in the front part with motives of the 70’s and 80’s. Many other decorations creating the soul of the area with dominant metal material from various eras we also used.
