The architectural concept was to create a contemporary residence. Consisting of straight lines and a pallet of neutral tones, the structure highlights its surroundings. The main building material chosen was concrete; natural stone and wood were also incorporated. The inspiration for this house is a reflection of the Brutalist style found in Brazilian residences of the 1960’s.
The client’s list of requirements was quite extensive and with an irregular 600m2 corner lot, as well as stringent condominium rules, made the evolution of the project difficult. The siting of the house took advantage of the its’ triangular shaped topography, contrasting strong concrete block for the rooms with wood slatted panels that appear to float above the garage.
Internally, the idea was to integrate all social spaces- an open concept. However in thinking about its functionality, panels were designed to separate the kitchen and tv room. The approach to the lighting was minimalist, enough to illuminate and create a cozy atmosphere in each area. Wood furniture was also selected to continue the minimalist theme.
The house has the latest smart technology, fully automated using a voice command system. The landscaping has also been integrated into the design, providing privacy to the recreation area.
